From “you can’t sing” to coaching singers

Almost twenty years ago, I auditioned for my secondary school choir and was told singing wasn’t for me. My voice strained and broke on high notes no matter how hard I tried, and people around me told me to give up.

I didn’t. I went looking for a better way and found the Singing Success method, developed by Brett Manning. Studying with Brett and his associate teachers, I gained range, power and stamina, and lost the strain and the cracks.

Over the years I built up a long list of students, about half of them professional performers and half people who simply wanted to sing better. I taught at music schools and privately until my students, and my mentor, pushed me to start my own studio. That became Sing Your Way Home.

How Daniel teaches

  • Diagnose first. Daniel listens for what is actually holding your voice back and goes straight to it.
  • Explain the why. Students often mention how clearly he explains the science of the voice, so you understand what you are changing.
  • Use your songs. Technique is practised on music you care about, in English, Mandarin, Korean or Japanese.
  • Keep it relaxed. Lessons are encouraging and never intimidating. Trying things out loud is the whole point.

“His ability to produce notable improvements in any person’s voice after just a few sessions is as impressive as it is memorable.”
